Notes on Hejira

Printed Media, Video

Pulling song lyrics and notes from Hejira, an album gifted to me, Notes on Hejira provides a point of connection through time and space with one of the great unifying forces: music. 21, and driving home from school in Willimantic, listening to WILI, and they played, ‘Song for Sharon,’ which hit me like a thunderbolt. These sentiments still ring true nearly 50 years later.

This landmark poster was designed for History of Graphic Design during the Fall semester of 2020. Designed as a tribute to Müller-Brockmann and the Swiss Style, the poster uses a vertical grid system, a deep orange colored title (inspired by the cover of Müller-Brockmann's Grid Systems book) and a neutral grotesk font. Further symbols like the white arrows where distributed across the poster as graphic elements, calling back to Müller-Brockmann’s redesign of the Swiss metro system signage. The poster also includes an essay detailing Müller-Brockmann’s works and his life.

Among the Leaves

Chain-link Fence, Paper Installation

Among the Leaves is a selection of curated images that explore the intersections between decoration, imitation, and nature. The silver fence and leaves serve as a “poster” form—meant to imitate natural leaves forming around architecture. Among the Leaves is was a part of a long term project that was meant to lure in viewers to explore a collection of images that guide my graphic design and artistic practice. This project is not only a collection, but a self portrait, a “portal” into what inspires me and how I view the phenomenon of imitating nature.
