This project is centered around the experience of being an
Indian-American immigrant, specifically living in the middle ground
between those two separate cultures. To Americans, I am the Indian and
to Indians, due to my accent, my mannerisms, my upbringing, I am the
American. As such, I’ve faced friction from both these cultural halves
throughout my life. Here, I explore the pronunciation of my name,

all these things are lost within a fever dream of happy childhoods and

Lost in Translation
Publication
Lost in Translation explores the visual interplay between Arabic,
English and Hindi. By filtering images of text through the iPhone
lens, Google Translate, Photoshop filters, and an OCR system, the
meaning of each word is transformed. The final “image,” is a poem in
English, sometimes humorous, sometimes incomprehensible, which
reflects the abstract nature of translation.
